Honoring Rod Diridon, Sr.

51st Distinguished Citizen

Rod Diridon, Sr. is a legend who has shaped Santa Clara County and the State of California through decades of visionary leadership and service. A proud product of Scouting, Rod credits the program with transforming his life, and he went on to repay that gift by serving on our Council Board for decades, championing the belief that Scouting should be for everyone.

We are proud to honor Rod with Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council's most significant award.

What is the Distinguished Citizen Award?

Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council, Scouting America, presents the Distinguished Citizen Award to recognize individuals who provide outstanding service to our community and inspire youth to become responsible leaders.

This honor is reserved for a leader who has lived a life guided by the Scout Oath and Law. In a region defined by innovation and progress, we believe that true leadership is still rooted in character. By honoring those who serve as pillars for our youth, we show our Scouts—and our community—that success is not measured by what we gain, but by the integrity with which we lead and the legacy we leave behind.

Countdown to Celebrate Rod Diridon

Scouting America: Preparing the Next Generation

The purpose of Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America) is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Through outdoor activities and educational programs, we foster character development, citizenship training, leadership, and personal fitness. Our goal is simple but profound: helping youth be "Prepared. For Life."

Local Impact: Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council

The Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council brings this mission to life right here in our own neighborhoods. We have over 10,000 young people across Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties, providing mentorship and safe environments where these values take root.

From our camps in the Santa Cruz Mountains and in the Sierras to service projects in our own backyards, we are dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of leaders in our region is built on a foundation of integrity and service.
